Is it true that boy babies are more likely to be colicky than girl babies?
No, colic doesn't discriminate on the basis of sex. Or almost anything else, it seems.
Colic is equally common among girls and boys, first born and later born, breastfed and formula-fed babies. No one knows why some babies are more prone to be colicky than others, although there are plenty of theories.
Only one risk factor has been proven: If a woman smokes during or after pregnancy, her baby's risk of developing colic is significantly higher. If you're a smoker and have had trouble quitting, the prospect of dealing with an inconsolable baby may give you the incentive to make it stick!
